I can’t sleep.
I can’t sleep and I have to get up in five hours.
I can’t sleep and the shadows seem less like shadows and more like drawings.
I can’t sleep and I don’t know how to do this again – how to wake up.
I can’t sleep and I’m a senior I’m a senior I’m a senior.
I can’t sleep and more than the leaves are about to change.
I can’t sleep and I’m burning off faith like it’s rocket fuel on lift off.
I can’t sleep and it feels like somebody’s turning the gravity off; not all at once, but slowly.
I can’t sleep and I’m not sure when this became a solo mission, but the capsule only had room for one.
I can’t sleep and I swear earth is more beautiful from afar, because everything is uglier up close.
I can’t sleep and I'm spinning out of control.
I left home at 18,000MPH and I'm revolving even faster. I'm pretty far away now, but it's okay, I can send emails to my pen pals. Everybody's staring up into the sky trying to figure out what dot I am and how I got there. It's great.
...but it's really quiet up here. I feel disoriented all the time and I can't see straight. I'm scared, and I don't know where I'm going. But it's okay, I can still see the stars. (Lot's of 'em.)
Truth is,
We're all floating through empty space.
i'm a sucker for astronomy parallels.
